Introducing Our Upcoming Blog Series

Musings of the Month

We are excited to introduce our upcoming blog series, where each month one of our colleagues will share thoughts and points of view related to the ever evolving fields of multicultural organizational development, human resources, implementation science, equitable evaluation and applied research, improvement science, learning science, performance measurement, and team science to advance social justice and DEI+B efforts. You will hear from leaders in these fields who are applying their knowledge and skill to co-create spaces and places where every person has health, well being, autonomy, self-determination, and freedom.

Each month we will highlight someone we admire as a guest author. Our hope is that you walk away with new perspectives, tools, and insights that you can use and help you realize the impact you truly desire in life and in work.

To kick off the series, our very own Veronica Smith shares her insights! When we asked Veronica what she is most excited about related to the series, she said, “I am eager to learn more and grow from this rich variety of courageous humans. They are each committed to learning, unlearning, and guiding others to take action to co-create an even more just, kind, and thriving world.”

As always thank you for subscribing to data2insight’s newsletter. We hope you find it valuable and share pertinent segments with those who will be most interested. You can also check out our website to find past newsletters and a wide variety of resources.

We hope you enjoy meeting each author!

February is Black History Month

During February, we are reminded of the rich ancestry and many contributions of Black people in the United States. This month also pushes us to deepen our knowledge and understanding of the nation’s history of colonization and slavery and the legacy of discrimination, marginalization, and oppression of Black people that persists today. When we know more about our history, we are better equipped to reimagine and co-create a new and better future.

Check out DEIB Consultant Jennifer Brown’s white paper that answers the question: What can companies and individuals do to move beyond an awareness of racism to play an active and engaged role in creating a just and equitable society?

#SelfCareCorner

Veronica recently received the following advice from colleague Elena Aguilar from Bright Morning, “What’s been sustaining you recently? Not what’s giving you joy or helping you thrive. Not what are you grateful for. But what’s sustaining you.” What a good reminder that while we cannot always find joy in each moment, we can find what sustains us. We hope you will find ways to sustain yourself as you meet the challenges and opportunities in your life.

What’s been sustaining you recently?

Equity + Accounting

Data2insight’s Finance Lead, Jennifer Rosales, recently attended the training session “Budgeting for Equity,” offered by PFM

This informative presentation explained how local government jurisdictions are shifting their focus to include equity when planning their budgets. Jennifer said, “I was proud to see that our very own King County’s Equity and Social Justice Vision was showcased. As an accounting professional, I am trained to look at things from a numbers point of view. This training allowed me to take that point of view and apply an equity lens on top of it.”

Budgeting through an equity lens is a critical thinking approach that factors assets and needs as well as financial inequities to ensure that each person has the resources and services necessary to thrive given their unique identities, circumstances, and experiences. Our team always applies an equity lens in all we do. We are honored to work with clients who are also passionate about this.
