10 Aug International Day of the World´s Indigenous Peoples
International Day of the World’s Indigenous Peoples is celebrated on August 9 each year.
Last week, to commemorate the event, there was a Webinar Series on the International Day of the World´s Indigenous Peoples “Custodians of Biodiversity.”
On the occasion of the International Day of the World´s Indigenous Peoples, which is observed by the United Nations each August 9th, the UNDP-GEF Global ABS Project, in partnership with the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, the Equator Initiative, the International Indigenous Forum on Biodiversity (IIFB), the Indigenous Women for Biodiversity Network of Latin America and the Small Grants Programme (SGP), hosted the Webinar Series “Custodians of Biodiversity”, from August 4th to August 7th 2020.
This Webinar Series aimed to highlight the indigenous peoples contributions on biodiversity conservation through governance mechanisms and ABS actions. Additionally, the webinar series intended to offer a space for indigenous peoples to exchange and discuss the emerging challenges on biodiversity management within ABS, and their contribution to the Post-2020 global biodiversity framework.
The webinars offered the option for simultaneous interpretation from English to Spanish. The recordings of the sessions will be shared through the Global ABS Community.
