02 Dec Tracing the Roots of Difference
Communities Count is a public-private partnership that provides data to support equity work and monitor the health and well-being of King County, Washington communities. Communities Count emphasizes prevention and a long-term view of change while using data to understand how to build and sustain healthy communities and families.
Recently, Communities Count published a series of Equity Blogs that looks at the root causes – historical and contemporary – of longstanding disparities in the health and well-being of King County residents. The blogs investigate the notion, supported by many public health leaders, that “health is a function of social inequality.” They also describe biological mechanisms that have been proposed to mediate the close relationship between social inequality and health outcomes.
