30 Apr Washington is home to the 2018 National Teacher of the Year
Stand for Children recently recognized this year’s National Teacher of the Year, Mandy Manning of Spokane, Washington. Stand for Children is an organization that ensures that all children, regardless of their background, graduate from high school prepared for, and with access to, college or career training.
Mandy Manning of Spokane was announced as the top teacher in the country last week after being named the Washington Teacher of the Year this past September. She teaches immigrant and refugee students at Ferris High School’s Newcomer Center in Spokane and embodies a truly student-first approach to teaching. Check out her interview here.
Mandy’s work has also extended outside the classroom. At Ferris High she led an effort to include more voices in discipline procedures and helped decrease suspensions by 74 percent.
