28 Aug Standing Diverse & United: Lifting Our Voices at the 5th Annual Y-WE Write Camp!
Data2insight is a proud sponsor of Y-WE, an organization born out of the enthusiasm and demand of the young women we serve, provides mentorship and empowerment programs for teen women in the greater Seattle area. They serve a diverse group of girls, ages 13-18, and women mentors, ages 19-70+. The organization is open to young women from all walks of life.
Earlier this month, Y-WE Write, the organization’s annual residential creative writing camp, took place on Whidbey Island in partnership with Hedgebrook. All were welcome, just as they were, including young and adult women and gender nonconforming people, of many shades, many backgrounds, many stories.
In a letter from co-directors, Victoria Santos & Jamie-Rose Edwards, they wrote:
“We carry with us our grief, our joy, our imagination. In these uncertain and dangerous times, we think of our ancestors, what they saw and what they survived. . . We think of each other.
We come together to put pen to paper, to pour dreams into language. We come to do the work of racial healing. We come for creative exploration, for collective and individual liberation.
In Y-WE . . . we equip ourselves with practices of awareness, courage and non-violent action for justice. Within the container of beloved community, we listen, we lift our voices and, each in our own way, we lead.”
