How can science centers and museums become more welcoming and safe places for members of the transgender community? Data2insight’s Frieda E. Smith, head of finance and operations and senior consultant, and Kaden Borseth, director of teen and family programs at Fernbank Museum of Natural History, Atlanta, explored this question along with attendees in a session at the annual conference of the Association of Science-Technology Centers (ASTC) on Monday, September 26, 2016.
At the beginning of the session, Borseth shared a resource called the Genderbread Person, which helps to illustrate the differences between biological sex, gender identity, gender expression, and romantic or sexual attraction.

It was the first transgender focused workshop to be selected for presentation at an ASTC conference.
Data2insight is thrilled to be associated with this informative and timely workshop. We hope to continue to help educate folks on how to be culturally competent when it come to their trans colleagues, guests, friends, and family.
